Today the main thing we did as a class was go to St Clemente's Basilica. Clemente was the third Bishop of Rome (which is what the Pope is). It was crazy because when we walked in and had mass we were told the church we were in was from the 11th century. Afterwards we walked downstairs and we learned that we were now in the church that used to be there and was even older. even further down there was ANOTHER church from the 1st century. Three churches all built on top of each other. The only thing i was dissappointed about was that we weren't allowed to take pictures of film down in the catacombs because it is an archaelogical site. They were pretty hardcore about security, because if you got too close to some of the walls or murals, an alarm went off. The alarm probably went off somewhere about 10 times while we were down there....
Afterwards we got some good lunch that was reasonably priced, and then we were free for the weekend. We went over towards the colliseum again and other areas around it. The forum area is basically a bunch of old Ruins still standing from the Roman empire. I was really impressed by it, because looking down at the ruins, it really feels like you are looking at ancient Rome. We also went by this building nicknamed "the Wedding Cake building". It was also a very impressive sight. In it are a museum and the tomb of the unknown Italian soldier. We got tons of pictures and you can refer to them in a few minutes when i post them. We're free for the weekend so I plan on roaming around more in the next couple of days. Stay tuned for more pictures and info
